Fertilizing

fertilizing the lawn with a spreader

To have a healthy lawn (or any healthy plant life, for that matter) you will need high soil quality. Using a fertilizer for your lawn is the best way to do so. Over time, your soil will naturally lose many of the important nutrients it needs to survive. If you really want that lush, green lawn, you are going to need to replace them. Fertilizer replaces and replenishes the essentials your lawn needs for a great look.

Tired of pushing that spreader? Let us take the handle and guide you towards a beautiful lawn. We recommend 4 basic fertilization regimens to keep weeds under control and to keep your grass roots healthy and strong.

Core Aeration

The main reason for aerating is to eliminate soil compaction. By aerating your lawn, the roots will grow deeper and produce a stronger, more vigorous lawn.

Over Seeding

Over seeding is the practice of putting more turf grass seeds on an existing lawn. If your lawn is looking thin and worn, over seeding can help you get back to the thick, lush, green lawn you have always wanted. We recommend core aeration and over seeding in the FALL.

Call and schedule an appointment for CORE AERATION and OVER SEEDING, late summer or early FALL OR SIGN UP FOR YEARLY AERATION AND SEEDING. Get a quote and get on the books.

Mulching

As spring begins, every homeowner dread spending precious weekend time mulching their property’s flower beds.  Let us take care of it for you!  Mulch is important because it insulates the soil helping to provide a buffer from heat and cold temperatures. It also retains water helping to keep the roots of your flowers and plants moist. Mulch keeps weeds out to help prevent root competition, keeping your home looking its best. Virtually all types of mulch can give planting beds an attractive, manicured, and well-maintained appearance. Because organic mulches decompose, they must be replenished on a regular basis, but most landscape professionals prefer organic mulches because of the many benefits they bring to the soil.

Inorganic mulches, on the other hand, include various types of materials that do not decompose and therefore do not need to be replenished very often, if ever. These options include rock, stone, lava rock, crusher dust, pulverized rubber, landscape fabrics, and other man-made materials. Inorganic mulches are ideal for decorative use controlling weeds.

Because rocks and stones absorb and reflect heat, they have the advantage of warming the soil for early spring planting of fruits and vegetables but can be detrimental to plants during periods of hot, dry weather. Watering during the warmer weather is important.

We offer a wide variety of mulch and decorative rock sourced from local companies. We also offer rubber mulch, which is usually utilized on playgrounds and parks.

Sod Installation

New sod is a significant investment. If the soil is not prepared correctly, your new sod may never take hold and grow into the lush lawn you desire. This means more than just tilling it or loosening the soil; it needs the right balance of nutrients and density to allow for healthy root. Let Deuces Garden & Patio Creations, help you establish a new lawn.

The best time to place Sod is in the FALL so it will have time to establish stronger roots, prior to the harsh temperatures of the oncoming summer.  Of course, this is not always the case.

It is especially important that you take care of your investment.  You must take care of your new turf. IT WILL NEED LOTS OF WATER Initially. It will be easier with an irrigation system because your new lawn needs to be watered twice a day, for about 20 minutes per session every day for at least two months. This should be enough so that your lawn gets a solid six inches of watering per cycle. The morning and late afternoon are the best times to water your lawn but remember to adjust your watering schedule to account for rainfall.

Leaf Removal

Leaf removal is important for aesthetic as well as agronomic reasons. Although turf grass growth slows as the temperature drops, photosynthesis continues. The energy from this process is stored to be used the following spring. Properly timed leaf removal will allow your lawn to breathe and to be well nourished.

Leaf removal is usually done in the fall and all throughout the colder months when leaf removal is paramount to a healthy lawn in the Spring.
